Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then found many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important official said the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
